Our group leader, Rachael, is a qualified breastfeeding counsellor. Centenary/Forest Lake group is also fortunate to have another qualified breastfeeding counsellor, Megan, and two trainee counsellors, Nicky and Karen. Breastfeeding counsellors are mothers who have breastfed their baby and have done a comprehensive course in breastfeeding knowledge. They are volunteers who make themselves available by phone, email and at meetings to offer suggestions and reassurance on breastfeeding matters. Counsellors are not medically trained, though, and do not give medical advice. With the support and help of our members, counsellors keep their local groups running by holding meetings, producing bulletins, fundraising, visiting post-natal mothers in hospital, giving talks, and participating in community events.

If you ring your local counsellor and they are unable to talk at that time, please ring the Breastfeeding Helpline on 3844 8977 or 3844 8166.

We also have a number of Community Educator (CE) and trainee Community Educators. CEs do things like giving antenatal and postnatal talks at hospitals and schools, attending local events like stalls and festivals, liaising with local health professionals and generally distributing ABA and breastfeeding information in their local area. Like counsellors, CEs have no medical training; they can be anyone who is known to their local ABA group, has completed the appropriate training and has an interest in protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding. Our Community Educators are:  Nicky, Janice and Paul (trainee).
