We're the local group of the Australian Breastfeeding Association in Brisbane's Centenary Suburbs and Forest Lake. We're for anyone who recognises the value of breastfeeding and supporting parents to breastfeed. Our area includes the suburbs: Forest Lake, Jindalee, Middle Park, Jamboree Heights, Riverhills, Sinnamon Park, Seventeen Mile Rocks, Westlake and Mt Ommaney.
A message from the Centenary/Forest Lake Group Leader:
Hi everyone,
Welcome to all our new members who have joined the
group in the past six months; it is great to share your company at our
meetings. Thank you to all who renewed your subscriptions, I hope you
are enjoying your free ABA gift.
We are all very pleased with how well the ABA 'Chat n Play'
(a play group where you can share an enjoyable organised activity with your
child) is going, so we are going to continue having the weekly meetings, with Chat n Play alternating with a discussion topic. We have had some great activites so far, for example
Since our last bulletin, Janice has qualified as a community educator and Nicky and Karen are well on their way to becoming breastfeeding counsellors. Well done Janice, and good luck to Nicky and Karen with your training.
Our garage sale in March was a great success, and we made just under $700. Thank you to those of you who donated stuff for us to sell and those who came and helped us, especially to Alyshia and Darren for donating the use of their house. I hope it is finally back in order again.
The selling of the national raffle tickets is well under way. Don't forget the last day for selling is Mothers Day; thank you to everyone who has agreed to sell tickets on behalf of the group. Good luck in the draw.
Sadly, we have had to give up our community garden plot at the Rocks Riverside Park. Nicky did a fantastic job tending the plot, but unfortunately found she had to do a lot on her own so is now concentrating on her studies and nuturing her own garden. Thank you Nicky, James and Aidan for all your effort, we enjoyed eating the yummy, freshly-picked tomatoes and peas.
It is coming up to Centenary Rocks! Festival time again, taking place on the 26th and 27th of July. Our group will be there again on the Sunday displaying and giving out information about ABA and breastfeeding as well as offering face paining as a fundraiser for the group. This year we will be in a tent of our own, bought using the money we received from the Livability Committee Grant that Nicky applied for on the group's behalf at the end of last year. Having been successful with this one, we are now considering applying for a grant to buy some much-needed updated books for the group library.
I would like to thank all our wonderful team of
helpers for the time and support you have given to our group, and
welcome aboard those who have joined the team.
I look forward to meeting you and your children.
Happy mothering,
Rachael
